Magic Bullet - UnCaged 33'4''

John Cage created the work known as 4'33'' to demonstrate the near impossibility of silence, and it is with great respect to the legend he was that we have created this antithesis of sorts. Whereas his work was about the listener hearing everything, ours is about the listener's attention being drawn to the point where they have to listen to nothing else, as all outside sound becomes masked by the blended waves of white, pink and brown noise. With the amount of sound pollution in the industrialised modern world, this is what we believe passes for 'the new silence'. The piece, conceived & realised by Magic & Zoyd in The Mmatterialisation Chamber in November 2021, is performed in three movements, precisely proportional to those in 4'33, the original performance of which was 'played' thus; 0:33, 2:40 and 1:20;

2nd Movement (19:22.784)
3rd Movement (9:41.392)
As with Cage's work, the 33'4'' refers to the actual combined time of the three movements (adding up to an ominous 1,984 seconds!), though there are also gaps between the movements of 4.33 seconds (in for a penny...), thus making the total running time of 33:12.66.
